Sadie-May’s story

My name is Sadie-May Narla, and I am 29 years old.
When I was 16, on 9th May 2013, I suffered a severe injury that shattered my ankle and lower leg. Just two weeks later, I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), along with other conditions. From that point on, my life changed completely. I have not been able to walk since 2013.
I rely on the constant support of my carer, who is also my mum, and my assistance dog, Onny. With the help of a wheelchair provided by my occupational therapist, I do my best to manage daily life. However, the reality has been incredibly challenging. It is difficult watching others my age live freely and independently while I face significant physical limitations.
I experience seizures almost every day and live with ongoing, often severe pain. Simple tasks that many take for granted can be overwhelming for me. Due to tremors in my hands and arms, I am unable to prepare food or drinks myself, so my mum supports me with these everyday needs. Onny also plays a vital role in my independence—he helps by retrieving items I drop and assisting me in ways that make daily life more manageable.
Despite these challenges, I continue to adapt and persevere with the support around me, taking each day as it comes.
